Our History
On May 1, 1929, thirteen born-again believers in the Lord Jesus Christ met at
the home of Mr. & Mrs. Chris Reidsma for the purpose of founding our church.
The first service was held on May 5, in the basement of the Women's Literary
Club building in Holland.
The first pastor was Rev. John Lanting, and through his ministry crowded conditions necessitated
moving into a larger facility, The Holland Armory.
Construction of our 97 W 22nd Street facility began in April of 1948, during the
teaching ministry of Rev. C.M. Beerthuis. Dr. S. Franklin Logsdon came in 1952, and due to
rapid growth, the East Wing was added in 1955.
In September 1990, we added the Pine Avenue modular building.
The LOFT was purchased in 1996 to provide space for our student ministries, and then sold in 2007 to go toward the building expenses at our new site on 104th Avenue.
In the booklet published to commemorate the dedication of our first building, in
March of 1949, these words appear: The object of this church is the edification of
Christians through the teaching of God's Word, the salvation of sinners, and the
world-wide proclamation of God's saving grace, based upon the finished work of the
Lord Jesus Christ, until He comes.
This is still our purpose today, under God, and our heart's desire and prayer is
that it may be fulfilled.
